        1. Types of Murals

I work with my clients to cater for all budgets and room sizes. Here are the three types of murals we paint:

      Complete room mural

This is when the entire bedroom is painted into a theme such as star wars or a fairy garden, a seascape or a universe, a jungle or a princess castle. I can incorporate shelves, doors, ceiling and furniture in the design.

Single wall art or Spot mural

It could be a trompe l'oeil, a tree painted in one corner of the room, a single design above your child's bed or their favorite character painted on one wall.

      Wall mounted mural

Instead of painting directly onto the walls, you may wish to have your design hand painted on a board (generally wood) or canvas for wall mounting. This is a popular alternative to wall painted murals because you can keep your painting for life and transport it from home to home or room to room.

        1. Where to paint your Mural?

Murals are wonderful because they are versatile and can transform any room into a beautiful and bright space. Our custom designed and hand painted murals are usually requested for a baby room or a nursery, a girl's bedroom or a boy's room, a playroom or a family room, or a bathroom.

Paint your mural anywhere you fancy! Let your imagination do the choosing and let us do the painting.

        1. Theme, Colour, and Sketches

      The Theme
Cool Mummy creates a themed wall art of whatever you have in mind. together, we will choose the general theme for your child's bedroom: anything from rambling roses or fairytale murals, to knights or superheroes murals. How about sea world or jungle murals, beach or space murals. Castles, fairy gardens, science fiction, Disney themes, or anything you like.

      The Colours
Once you've chosen the theme, we will recommend the characters and details which will be painted and feature in the mural. We will choose the color scheme, and try to match the decor and the furniture of your room.

It is at this stage of the design process that we provide you with a full and detailed quotation.

      The Sketches
Once the theme and components are decided upon, I will show you a number of pencil sketches to choose and based on your preferred choice, I will then provide those fully painted for you to get an idea on how the final mural will look like.

      The Mural
The next step, after having jumped up and down at how lovely the painted sketches look, is the actual Mural painting which can either take place at your home (if you choose a complete wall mural or spot mural) or off site (if you choose a canvas or wall mounted mural).

        1. Would you like your child to help?

Please note that you may wish to involve your child in deciding what characters to paint. This initial stage in the Mural painting process is a very exciting treat and loads of fun. Children can make it into their special project by researching their preferred theme and finding characters in their favorite picture books. We can lend your child books from our fabulous children's books library and give them a set of easy to understand guidelines that will help them on their super cool task.

        1. Preparation and Material

      Preparation
Preparation of the work surface must be made to very good standards. Walls must be quite smooth, dry and damp free. Usually, one or two coats of white vinyl matt emulsion or acrylic primer provides a good base for the mural. You can either prepare the walls yourself or let us do this for you a few days before we are due to paint the final mural.

      Material
I work with a number of mediums, the most common one for painting children's bedrooms is acrylic paints which are odourless, non-toxic, fast drying and washable when dry. It is also possible to finish with a coat of matt acrylic varnish to make your mural more hard wearing.

I have worked over surfaces which may require another kind of preparation. The mural I have completed in 2006 for a Development Trust in West London was one of them: Due to the requirement for a very hard wearing and grippy mural, the surface had to be sand blasted, spray painted, then varnished.

        1. Who Paints your Mural?

The number of artists involved in painting your mural depends on the size of your project. I work with very talented artists and illustrators to bring your mural to life, one of whom is the inspirational London based painter Anne Welford who has assisted me on a few projects. Please note that the price for your mural remains the same regardless of the artists who work on it.

        1. Where do we paint?

Despite most of our wall paintings being London based, Cool Mummy murals are not just London murals, meaning we will paint children's bedrooms anywhere in the UK. I will happily discuss your project ideas no matter where you are based. Contact me to have a chat about your project.
